Know
the difference between perfume, cologne and toilet water.
Perfume
is the strongest and purest form of the fragrance. It is created
from fragrant oils, preservatives and alcohol. The oils, which create
the scent are extracted from fruits, flowers, and spices. Perfume
is the most expensive form of fragrance.
Toilet
water is a watered down version of the perfume. Toilet water consists
of a higher level of alcohol which does not affect the actual scent,
but it does not last as long as perfume. Because of the high level
of alcohol, toilet water can be applied more freely and will create
a cool refreshing sensation.
Cologne
is basically the same as toilet water, but it is usually limited
to just citrus and floral bases.
Perfume
should not be sprayed directly on any fabric. You should apply your
sent before getting dressed. Not only does perfume often stain fabric,
but the fragrance will be difficult to remove from the article of
clothing.
All
of your toiletries (soaps, bath oil, body lotion, dusting powder,
shampoo, body splash, cologne, perfume) should be the same fragrance.
Conflicting scents can produce an unpleasant odor.
Your
fragrance should fluctuate with the seasons with wearing the heavier
scents for winter and light weight floral scents for summer.
Your
perfume should be stored in a sealed bottle in a cool, dark place.
Since perfume is largely made up of alcohol, it has to be stored
carefully so it does not evaporate.
Only
test one perfume at a time. Too many scents can confuse your nose
and may result in a wrong decision.
When
wearing pearls, try and avoid applying perfume to any area that
will contact them. Both real and faux pearls tend to get stained
and turn yellow when they come in contact with perfume.
Your
body chemistry has a lot to do with the scent that a perfume projects.
Experiment with different perfumes to see which scent is the most
becoming to you.
